Dynamo Houston Soccer Kit
Dynamo Houston soccer was borne out of the failure of San Jose Earthquakes inability to secure a soccer specific stadium. Owners AEG made the decision in December 2005 to relocate the entire team and coaching staff to Houston under the new banner of Dynamo Houston.
Set up as an entirely new team in 2006 the Dynamo play there home games in orange with the three adidas stripes in white. The Dynamo emblazoned on the chest of the Dynamo Houston home jersey along side the Dynamo Houston club crest. The home top also incorporates the grey swish from top to bottom.
The Dynamo Houston away soccer shirt is white with orange strips down the sleeve. Houston is printed across the front of the jersey along with the grey swish from top to bottom.
It is interesting to note that the new club crest on the shirt has one star above to signify the clubs success in the 2006 MLS cup. What a start to the history of the Dynamos.

The Dynamos were initially named Houston 1836. This was reference to the founding year of the city by brothers Augustus Chapman Allen and John Kirby Allen. The Houston 1836 logo also incorporated the outline of general Sam Houston.
The name raised issues with the Hispanic section of the Houston community as this was also the year that Texas gained independence from Mexico. The alienation of the Hispanic community is never a good idea.
When it comes to soccer in the US the support of the Latin section of the community is extremely important given their love of the game.
The reference to 1836 was a result to an online survey, something that the MLS has since outlawed. With the controversy surrounding the name, owners AEG decided on the name Dynamo Houston, Yet another controversial choice. The reason…. This was the term for European eastern block countries soccer teams run by the state secret police.
This was rather unfortunate given the name was supposed to reference previous Houston teams called the Houston Dynamos. Coupled with the meaning of dynamo being someone with endless energy who never gave up and referring to hard working ethics of the cities population then it seems very appropriate.
Dynamo Houston Soccer Success
The first Dynamo Houston soccer game was played in front of a 25,462 crowd on April 2, 2006. The result was a 5-2 win over Colorado Rapids. The game was a fitting start to life in the Robertson Stadium for the Dynamo. It also set a high standard of expectation for the fans which even included an overhead kick from Alejandro Moreno.
The Season progressed well with Houston managing to secure a play-off berth by way of a second place spot in the western conference. This set up a two legged semi-final against LA side Chivas.
The tie was won in the last minute of stoppage time through a Brian Ching winner to put Houston Dynamo 3-2 up and set up a conference final against Colorado Rapids
Paul Dalglish, son of Celtic, Liverpool and Scotland legend, scored twice in the final to win the game 3-1.
The win against Colorado set up an MLS Cup final with New England Revolution which Houston won 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. This win secured the MLS cup in Dynamo Houston’s very first season.
In the 2007 season the Dynamo are currently leading the Western Conference having played 3 more games than nearest rivals Chivas USA.
