Mitre Soccer Ball
The Mitre Soccer ball is the first match football that I can remember. Growing up through various ranks of football the Mitre soccer ball was always the match ball of choice. I can still remember my first kick of a Mitre Multiplex as a five year old playing football in the park with an old plastic ball. I can still hear the echo of my dad shouting NO as I ran to kick the ball back to the big boys playing in one half of the pitch. He was too late and I remember never having felt pain like it as I kicked the ball with all my five year old strength only for my foot to stop dead on what felt like a lump of concrete. 
I can also still remember having (as a slightly older primary school player) having the lettering of a Mitre soccer ball stamped on my right thigh on a cold winter morning. This was from the widely used and never to be forgotten bright orange plastic Mitre football used extensively at school level both in training and in matches. I even remember standing steadfast in a wall facing a free kick from our nearest rivals. You could tell the opposing striker was going to go for goal and as he strode up to strike the ball. I remember with great clarity the famous Multiplex flying off his boot and hitting my chest with a great deal of force yet again imprinting the Mitre mark on my torso. What I failed to understand was the resulting penalty which the ref gave for handball in the box. He did not even relent when I pulled up my shirt and showed him the ball mark on my chest. I can’t help thinking that the changes in charactristics of the Mitre soccer ball in todays games may have prevented the ref from making that decision. Just as an aside we lost the league title that year by one point and it was down to that penalty. In today’s game Mitre match balls are used in the top flight of Scottish football. Next is the Pro Max which is suitable for use on grass and Astroturf which is ideal for amateur and semi-professional matches. This ball is ideally suited to grass or astro and is a good ball for youth games. In the mid range Mitre also have the Ultimatch which is great for kids football matches or as a training ball. Again this ball can be used on both grass and Astroturf. At the entry level Mitre have the Mitre Vapor, and Mitre Tactic as well as the most widely used training ball for kids which is the Mitre Calcio football. The Mitre Calcio can be used on both grass and turf. These balls are exceptional value but only if you are using them for kids football. Futsal Mitre Futsal balls have been extensively used by coaches to encourage young players to keep the ball on the ground and improve their touch and feel of the ball.
