History of Monterrey Soccer The club was formed by businessmen Ramón Cárdenas Coronado, Enrique Ayala Medina, Paul C. Probert, Rogelio Cantú Gómez and Miguel Margáín Zozaya in 1945 as Club de Futbol Monterrey, S. A. de C.V. The club played it’s first professional game against Leon in the Parque de Béisbol Cuauhtémoc, a game which they ran out 1-0 winners. It wasn’t until 1986 that Monterrey won the league title. Unfortunately, as 1986 was the year Mexico hosted the World Cup, this was not a full league season but none the less it was still considered as title. In 2003 the Rayados won the Clausura 2003 by beating Monarcas Morelia 3-1 on aggregate. The clubs closest rivals are UANL Tigres with the two teams playing in the second biggest derby game in Mexico, the Clásico Regiomontano. This derby is second only behind the Superclásico between Guadalajara and América.
