The New La Galaxy Jersey is going down a storm around the globe. The LA Galaxy Beckham Jersey if flying off the shelf. This is in spite of missing his first few games due to the recurrence of an ankle injury picked up while on international duty with England.
The arrival of Beckham into the MLS has brought a resurgence in soccer in the US. There is an unparralled interest in US Soccer which puts even the arrival of Pele, Beckenbaur and Cruyff during the hayday of the 70’s well in the shade.
Beckham and his team mates Landon Donovan and Abel Xavier will be playing in the new Galaxy home kit of all white with yellow flashings and the obligatory adidas three stripes. The new LA galaxy jersey also incorporates the major sponsor, herbalife, across the chest.

A Little Bit of History
The Galaxy were founded in 1995 after various incarnations of professional soocer teams in Los Angeles. The most notable of these being the LA Aztecs in the 1970’s.
The Californian area has long been a hotbed of soccer due to the prodominence of the latin influence around that area. The first pro team in the LA area was actually formed in 1955 as the Los Angeles Kickers.
The name of the club bears reference to the stars of Hollywood thus the term Galaxy after the primary owner of the team became Anschutz Entertainment Group. The team joined the
MLS
for the inaugural season.
During that first season where LA Galaxy’s average attendance at the Rose Bowl was almost 30,000 LA Galaxy shot straight to the MLS Cup final losing 3-2 in overtime to DC United. That season started what was to be very keen rivalry between the two teams.
A Change of Grounds
For the first seven years of its exisitence LA Galaxy played their home games at the Rose Bowl in Pasedena. The Capacity of the Rose Bowl was over 90,000 which the teams supporters could never hope to fill.
It wasn’t until 2003 that the team moved to the Home Depot Centre, a purpose built soccer stadium in Carson, California. It is at that 27,000 capacity stadium nicknamed “the cathedral of soccer” that the only real derby game in the MLS takes place. That Derby is LA Galaxy v Chivas USA. A game which results in both sets of fans feeling at home because they share the stadium.
Like all derby's it is the past history which makes the future games all the more intense. As the league matures this fixture will possibly become the most intense in the MLS.

The Future
The future for soccer in US looks bright but it will take time to prove if Alexi Lalas’s prediction about David Beckhams arrival will come to fruition.
Attendances at LA Galaxy are down 10,000 since the inaugural season and expectation of making the play-offs will be very high this year after the disappointment of last season. The secret to the success of the club could well lie in the home grown talent being influenced by top players like Beckham arriving.
